When Apple unveiled the idea of using wireless ear buds called AirPods that will allow users of the iPhone 7 to listen to music via Bluetooth connection, it was met with skepticism, at the very least. There was a huge backlash from the community, particularly with regards to the possibility of losing the devices. As it turns out, however, the AirPods are performing a lot better than anyone expected.
According to a new report by Slice Intelligence, Apple had an incredible holiday season with AirPod sales going through the roof. It was also at the head of all headphone sales for the holidays.
“In December, a whopping 75 percent of headphones sold online were wireless. It is not coincidental that this was also the month that AirPods launched,” the report reads. “On the December 13, the day of the AirPods release, spending on headphones was ten times greater than the pre-holiday average for 2016. It was the largest single day of online headphone spending last year.”
On the matter of headphone preference, it was clear during the recently concluded CES that manufacturers are now more and more invested in wireless headphones than in the past, Tech Crunch reports. The fact that 75 percent of the sales involving headphones came from the wireless variety is also indicative that consumers aren’t exactly against the idea of getting headphones that no longer come with wires that get tangled up.
More than that, it would seem that the perceived problems with the AirPods weren’t enough of a reason for customers to not give the product a chance. The fact that Apple’s wireless ear buds actually come with excellent features and a surprisingly reasonable price range considering the company’s history are just bonus factors that made them so popular.
So, basically, the matter of haters hating on the AirPods was just proven to be a weak affair. Clearly, the world is ready for wireless ear buds.
