NEW YORK, Aug. 07, 2017 -- Dr. Anthony Stein, Hematologist/Oncologist, Director of the Leukemia Program, Co-Director of the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research, and Clinical Professor of Hematology & Hematopoietic Transplantation at City of Hope in Duarte, is being recognized as one of “America’s Best Doctors”. He will be sharing his knowledge and expertise in Hematology, Oncology, and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Stein has been active in the healthcare industry for the past 38 years. He obtained his M.D. from the University of Cape Town Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1978 and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Hematology. He completed his internship at the Groote Schuur Hospital (1979), residency at Montefiore Hospital (1985), and fellowship at City of Hope (1988). His interest in Adult Leukemia, as well as his background of clinical training in the field of Oncology during the ‘80s, led him to his current work.
Dr. Stein’s day-to-day responsibilities at City of Hope include leadership and oversight within the hospital’s Leukemia Department, research, and patient care. City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with research and treatment protocols that advance care throughout the nation.
Dr. Stein attributes his success throughout the course of his career to his more than 30 years of experience in Clinical Research, as well as his various medical publications. He is honored to be Co-Chair of the Leukemia Program at City of Hope, to have his certification in Internal Medicine and Hematology, and to have written a number of peer-reviewed publications regarding his research on Leukemia drugs and treatments. Of all his accomplishments, Dr. Stein is most proud of the work he does to improve the outcome of treatment for his patients. His long-term professional goals include continued growth and further research that will lead to the discovery of new treatments for patients diagnosed with Adult Leukemia.
Dr. Stein is a member of ASH, ASCO, and ASBMT. Charitable organizations he works with include the Leukemia Society.
In his free time, Dr. Stein enjoys playing soccer.
