‘Ant-Man 2’, officially titled ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, is speculated to feature Sharon Stone alongside leads Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily. These rumors emerged following Stone’s big reveal that she signed on to play a superhero in the MCU. However, she didn’t specify which film she will appear on.
According to Movie Web, Stone admitted that she signed on to play a minor role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) during an appearance on CBS’ The Late Show with James Corden last month. Although she couldn’t expound more on her mystery character, she hinted that she is set to play a superhero.
She said, "I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it."
Stone was also recently featured in a profile piece in AARP Magazine, which mentioned her involvement in the MCU. The story named Stone and Alfre Woodward as two of Marvel’s newest recruits. It stated that Woodward is set to play a villain in the Netflix series ‘Luke Cage’ while Stone was revealed to have been cast as a superhero possessing the power of heat.
According to /Film, this hint lead to several speculations of Stone potentially appearing in the upcoming sequel of ‘Ant-Man’ since the Wasp has the ability to produce an stinging energy blast, which could also be described as heat.
Popular theories suggested that Stone may be playing Janet Van Dyne, the original character taking up the identity of the Wasp. Janet is Hope Van Dyne’s mother. Evangeline Lily played Hope in the first film.
Janet possesses the powers of size manipulation, flight, and superhuman strength. She operated as Wasp in S.H.I.E.L.D. before sacrificing herself to save lives. She became lost to the Quantum Realm.
Lily’s Hope inherited the role of Wasp as revealed in the first film’s post-credits scene. Lily returns to reprise her role together with co-star Paul Rudd, who is also returning to portray Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man.
‘Ant-Man 2’, officially titled ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, is an upcoming superhero film in the MCU. It is directed by Peyton Reed and is scheduled to premiere on July 6, 2018 in the United States.
It is intended as the follow-up to Reed’s 2015 release ‘Ant-Man’, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Motion Pictures. The first film earned $519.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $130 million. It grossed $57.2 million on its domestic opening weekend and received positive reviews from critics.
