Announcement Of New Tomb Raider Game Announced, Square Enix Teases Fans

Typically, developers or publishers announce the existence of games by saying that the game exists and saying what the title is, among other things. However, Square Enix is taking some extra steps to tease fans with an announcement of another announcement of the upcoming Tomb Raider game. More details will apparently be revealed in some event that will be held sometime in 2018.

The studio made the tease via Tweet on its official Twitter account, with the caption that reads “A message to our fans!” Attached was essentially a letter announcing an upcoming announcement about the next adventures of Lara Croft.

Now, it’s worth noting that rumors and reports of a third installment to the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise being developed have been circulating around the internet for months. As such, announcing that there is going to be an announcement about it does leave a bitter taste in the mouths of those who have been following along with this development for a while, PC Gamer notes.

While the developers still refuse to release any specific details, internet sleuths have been hard at work to uncover as much information about the game as they can. For example, it was rumored last year that the title of the game is going to be Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Additional details leaked back in June that essentially solidified the rumors about the title.

Another aspect of the game that has been going through the rumor mill is the developer helping to make it. As Digital Trends notes, the most likely contenders right now are Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. Square Enix is refusing to provide any confirmation on this matter as well, which is understandable given how rabid the fan base can be when searching for scraps of information about the game.

In terms of which event the Tomb Raider team is referring to, many are placing their bets on E3 2018 as the likely venue for the announcement. All other choices would be either too small or too far off.
