‘America’s Next Top Model’ cycle 23 featured the girls stripping down for a nude photo shoot. Eliminated contestant Cherish Waters also discussed her frustrations during an interview with judge law roach following her departure from the show.
Episode 3, titled "Make Your Mark," featured model makeovers as well as a nude photo shoot. It also followed the usual drama as well as meltdowns. Cherish Waters from Los Angeles, California was the second girl to be eliminated following Justin Biticon of Panorama City, California’s departure from the popular reality television series’ cycle 23.
According to the recap on Vulture, latest host Rita Ora talked about the importance of one’s own “branding” in the overly saturated entertainment industry and explained that she managed to achieve this with her own trademark look of going blonde and sporting a bold red lip. She also highlighted other fashion icon’s trademark looks such as Ariana Grande’s ponytail and Beyonce’s golden waves.
When the contestants received cards revealing their new looks, some were happy while others were quite disappointed. Cherish was left aghast at the plans to dye her natural red hair even redder while Tash went on a complete meltdown after receiving the card for a box shave.
According to People, judge Ashley Graham had to handle the issue with Tash when the 27-year old contestant insisted that she knew who she was as a person and refused to accept her new look. Ashley explained, “This is when the brand, the boss and the business separate… Because at the end of the day, your look is probably always going to be changing.”
Meanwhile, Graham posed behind a flowing curtain of pearls topless when the girls entered the studio for their scheduled nude photo shoot. Although the girls showed their enthusiasm over the new challenge, India got self-conscious and admitted that she was uncomfortable with the prospect of stripping off for the camera.
By the end of the episode, Courtney was awarded for "best photo” while Cherish and Krislian are in the bottom two. Cherish was eventually eliminated despite saying that she compromised her integrity and still did well in the shoot.
In the video posted on VH1, Cherish expressed her frustrations when she sat down with judge Law Roach following her departure from the competition. When asked if it was indeed her time to leave, she replied, “Absolutely not. I’m America’s Next Top Model whether you guys like it or not.”
Cherish also talked about being in the modeling industry for eight years and admitted that she was hesitant about going back to her modeling career after lacking the opportunity to showcase her real skills and talent in the show. However, she remained optimistic about not letting the rejection get to her.
‘America’s Next Top Model’ cycle 23 is premiered on December 12, 2016 on VH1. The reboot follows the series’ original format of an all-female contest and is hosted by Rita Ora.
