American bitcoin ATM company acquires BitQuick

According to latest reports, American digital currency ATM network Athena Bitcoin is acqui-hiring bitcoin exchange startup BitQuick, which temporarily closed its doors after suffering a cyberattack. The details of the deal have not been disclosed.

In an email to users, Jad Mubaslat, Founder of BitQuick, said:

“BitQuick will return to the same state it was in right before our downtime, with improved security and platform availability. This comes after weeks of intense code audits and architecture overhauling that will lead to an ever faster browsing experience.

In addition, Athena Bitcoin Inc. has taken ownership of BitQuick.co. This will give BitQuick further access to the resources we need to continue growing, and improving the service you’ve grown to know and love.”

Athena Bitcoin operates a network of kiosks where consumers and small businesses can buy and sell bitcoin. It has locations in Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Athena Bitcoin is taking over the exchange as well as bringing in team members Jad Mubaslat and Chad Davis.

In an interview with CoinDesk, Mubaslat said that in the near term, the team will continue with its operations as it has previously, only with financial backing from Athena that will be used to expand the team’s size and capacity.

"Chad is going to continue working as customers service and I’ll continue to work in a leadership role, making sure the platform works as it was before”, he said.

Mubaslat clarified that the sale is not relate to the server breach that took place in March, adding that the decision was driven by personal factors outside of the bitcoin space.

The acquisition will allow anyone to buy and sell bitcoin instantly, with cash, across the United States. Gil Valentine, co-founder and COO, Athena Bitcoin, said that the acquisition of BitQuick.co is wholly customer-focused and will allow it to service customers nationwide.

“[T]he enhancements to our network will provide an exceptional, swift, secure experience to buyers and sellers of bitcoin,” Valentine added.
