“American Crime Story” season 3 is anticipated after coming off from the successful airing of the second season’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” story. However, the follow-up is taking so long to air and the next story has been scrapped not once but twice already. Does this mean the series has been canceled?
According to Deadline, FX Networks’ CEO John Landgraf stated that “American Crime Story” season 3 is still in the cards. In fact, he said that the series will have many “more cycles” even after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. Fans were assured that “no end is in sight” so they can stop worrying about the show being canceled.
So, why is “American Crime Story” season 3 not coming out yet? During the 2019 Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, John Landgraf discussed the show’s future. He said that it is definitely returning but the release date has not been decided yet because the production team is still undecided with regards to which story to tackle.
“We have three or four ideas in active development where we’ve acquired rights and done a fair amount of research and have writers working on them,” the FX’s CEO told the press. “I couldn’t tell you what will be ready first. The likelihood is all of them may be produced over time.”
As to how long the “American Crime Story” will remain on air, Landgraf said that this is up to the drama’s executive producer Ryan Murphy. “It’s up to how long he wants to keep going and how many years he has inspired ideas,” he noted.
It appears that the production team’s indecision as to what story to feature in “American Crime Story” story season 3 is the main cause of the delay. They previously confirmed the Monica Lewinsky scandal and then the New Orlean’s hurricane Katrina story, but these two were discarded.
As a result, the “American Crime Story” story season 3’s theme is still vacant up to now. With no specific decision yet, the viewers may have to wait a bit longer for the third installment to air.
