Aside from the changes in sleeves slated to happen in “Altered Carbon” season 2, the other big question is when will the sci-fi series return with new episodes. Principal photography is set to wrap up in summer making others doubt that a 2019 premiere date is happening.
Last year, there were reports that “Altered Carbon” season 2 is scheduled to start filming in early February. This was somehow confirmed when Netflix released the very first teaser for the show alongside naming the new and returning cast members of the series.

It can then be presumed that the principal filming of “Altered Carbon” season 2 would most likely wrap up in late June, as also reported by the same sources. However, the series is set far in the future and also uses many sci-fi materials. This means its post-production phase would also require a significant amount of time.
Under these circumstances, there could be very little room for Netflix to push for a 2019 release date. Fans should then start to prepare to wait for “Altered Carbon” season 2 until the first half of 2020.
On the other hand, pushing the release date of “Altered Carbon” season 2 to 2020 could also mean that the fans will be enduring a two-year hiatus. That much break for a fairly new series might also hurt the size of its audience. So there is a very little chance that Netflix could make a late 2019 premiere happen just to ensure that the high-budget series will not lose many of its viewers.
“Altered Carbon” season 2 is slated to introduce a cast mostly composed of new faces as most “sleeves” are getting replaced. The series is based on the same title 2002 novel series by Richard K. Morgan. The plot heavily revolves around the fictional device called cortical stack. It is where the consciousness of an individual is stored so when the original body dies, the human being could be transferred to a new functioning body called sleeves. So for the second season, main protagonist Takeshi Kovacs' sleeve will be played by Marvel star Anthony Mackie.
