“Altered Carbon” season 2 has yet to arrive but bits of spoilers are already available as its showrunner share some details from time to time. Moreover, Netflix renewed the series for another run in July so there is no need to worry if it will be back. Below are the details that we know so far.
Cast
“Altered Carbon” season 2 is confirmed to return with a new protagonist. Joel Kinnaman was the lead star in season 1 and he played Takeshi Kovacs but in this installment, he will be replaced by Anthony Mackie.
It was reported that Kinnaman only signed a year contract for the sci-fi drama so, from the beginning, it was clear that he only intended to work for one season. The actor announced his exit earlier this year.
Incidentally, it was learned that the “Altered Carbon” creator really planned to have a different lead star for every season since it is just fitting for the theme of their show. The drama is about humans being able to preserve their minds and upload it to a new body called the “sleeves” in order to continue living after death thus it makes sense that the protagonist can assume a different look, age or race.
Aside from Anthony Mackie, since the concept of “Altered Carbon” season 2 is transferring the consciousness to a new “sleeve” to avoid death, then there is a big possibility that other cast members who died like Poe (Chris Conner) and Reileen (Dichen Lachman) could return. The character of Laurens Bancroft is also likely to still be in the drama but if ever he appears in season 2 again, he may still be played by James Purefoy or someone else.
Story
Prior to “Altered Carbon” season 2 renewal, show creator Leta Kalogridis dropped some hints about what fans can expect when the series airs again. She told Entertainment Weekly that everything could change in the story.
"We want to do something surprising with the second season that is not in the same place with the same people," Kalogridis said. "I think the universe of these books gives you more latitude. Richard [K. Morgan] and I have a plan, I don’t know how people will feel about the plan, but we do have one!"
Air Date
“Altered Carbon” season 2 has no release date yet but as mentioned on EconoTimes, filming has already begun last week. With this filming schedule, it is likely that it will arrive in the second half of 2019.
