The “Agents of Shield” season 6 cast and crew recently went back to the set to start the shoot for the ABC series. At the beginning of the filming, it was also revealed that Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson) is going to work behind the camera this time, as a director of the first episode.
While Gregg is sure to return in “Agents of Shield” season 6, it was not stated if he will also be back on the set as an actor, portraying Phil Coulson. In any case, his directorial stint for the premiere episode was confirmed by the show through a tweet that was posted three weeks ago.

The heroes in “Agents of Shield” season 6 will still consist of Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Henry Simmons (Al MacKenzie), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yo-Yo Rodriguez). They will all come back with the addition of a new regular character played by Jeff Ward.
Yes, Jeff Ward has been added as a main cast member as Deke Shaw. He is the scavenging grandson of Jemma and Fitz, as seen in season 5. His addition as a regular cast member was revealed at SDCC 2018 via a cast interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Title
When the show disclosed that Gregg will direct the premiere episode, the title of the “Agents of Shield” season 6 opening was also unveiled. The superhero drama is debuting with “Missing Pieces” episode.

Episodes and Air Date
Unlike the usual 22 episodes, “Agents of Shield” season 6 will only have 13 episodes. However, fans should not worry if this season is shorter because it does not mean that this will be the final season. As for the premiere, it does not have a specific date yet but the show will be back on air in the summer of 2019.
