AMD is anticipated to add a new graphics cards to its lineup of products by next week as rumors have it that Radeon RX 5500 is close to being launched. Meanwhile, the company also scored big in the CPU department as Microsoft announced it favored a custom Ryzen processor to power its latest Surface Laptop offering.
AMD graphics cards: Company expected to launch a new product next week
AMD still has several GPU and CPU products expected to unveiled before 2019 ends. Its fans received bad news recently that a couple of anticipated processors will be delayed until November. But the company reportedly has other products to reveal this month, specifically the Radeon RX 5500.
The report comes from Videocardz that shared AMD recently held a press call for the upcoming Radeon RX 5500 in preparation for its upcoming launch. Technically, the microprocessor maker will release more than one graphics card this month because the Radeon RX 5500 will have its versions for desktops and mobile devices.
Radeon RX 5500 is slated as AMD’s mid-range GPU offering to compete with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1650Ti that are both rumored to be announced this month, too. AMD’s upcoming graphics cards are anticipated to have 4GB to 8GB RAM on a GDDR6 component. It is built based on the 7nm Navi 14 architecture and rumored to sport 22 CU that could power it to support 1,408 steam processors.
Unfortunately, tech fans will have to wait for the announcement to learn its other specs. AMD is also speculated to sell the Radeon RX 5500 for around $200. An unveiling event is anticipated on Monday, Oct. 7, while the retail release could be set before the year ends.
AMD wins major deal as Microsoft chooses custom Ryzen for new Surface Laptop
Microsoft just updated its Surface ecosystem with the third generation of Surface Laptop this week. For the first time, the company released a 15-inch version of the device along with the staple 13.5-inch variant.
The bigger surprise is that Microsoft has officially partnered with AMD to use a custom Ryzen processor for the 15-inch variant of the Surface Laptop 3. For the longest time, Microsoft has exclusively used Intel chips on its laptops and 2-in-1s over the years. This configuration also uses exclusive AMD-made GPUs based on the Radeon Vega line.
