Drone footage captured 38 Tesla Semi units at the company's prototype factory near Giga, Nevada, signaling that production is ramping up. Tesla has not confirmed their destination, but speculation suggests they could be part of PepsiCo’s remaining order for the all-electric Class 8 trucks.
Drone Footage Reveals Increased Tesla Semi Production at Nevada Facility, Signaling Progress in Class 8 EV Manufacturing
The initial production of the all-electric Class 8 vehicle has continued despite the steady construction of the Tesla Semi factory. In contrast, recent drone footage of the Tesla Semi prototype facility near Giga, Nevada, indicates an increased number of all-electric Class 8 long-hauler units are being manufactured.
Tesla's factories are exceptional to observe, partly due to the company's implementation of innovative construction technologies that expedite and optimize the construction process. According to Teslarati, this may be one of the reasons why drone operators are attracted to Tesla factories, as many of them have taken it upon themselves to provide the electric vehicle community with regular updates.
This is the case for the Tesla Semi factory, which has garnered the support of its advocate, @HinrichsZane, who has consistently disseminated information regarding the facility's advancements on social media. However, the majority of the Tesla Semi advocate's videos have concentrated on the production facility of the Class 8 all-electric truck. A recent update has revealed that Tesla is also increasing the production of vehicle prototypes.
38 Tesla Semi Trucks Spotted at Nevada Factory, Potentially Fulfilling PepsiCo’s Remaining Order
In recent days, 38 Tesla Semi units that appeared to be prepared for customer delivery were situated outside the company's existing prototype factory, as evidenced by the Tesla watcher's video. Tesla has not disclosed any information regarding the vehicles observed outside the facility; however, there is speculation that at least some of the trailers in the video may have been designated for PepsiCo.
In 2017, the food and beverage company ordered 100 Tesla Semi units. Tesla has delivered 86 Tesla Semi units to the company thus far, with 15 operating from the Modesto depot, 21 from the Sacramento depot, and 50 from the Fresno depot, as per comments made by PepsiCo Electrification Program Manager Dejan Antunović at the 2024 IAA Transportation Expo in Hannover, Germany, last month.
It appears that PepsiCo may soon have its entire order for the Class 8 all-electric vehicle fulfilled, as 38 production Tesla Semi units were observed in the drone operator's most recent video. This would be a significant milestone for the Tesla Semi program, enabling the electric vehicle manufacturer to begin fulfilling vehicle orders from other customers.
