NEW ALBANY, Ind., Aug. 21, 2017 -- 1st Choice Health & Wellness is making it easier for patients to live long, happy lives by offering heart disease testing through Boston Heart Diagnostics. The program is designed to help individuals assess their risk and make appropriate lifestyle changes—including diet and fitness—after receiving the results.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), over a 600,000 Americans die from complications associated with heart disease each year; a startling statistic that accounts for nearly one in four deaths in the United States. However, patients in New Albany are now able to take charge of their health thanks to the Boston Heart Diagnostics program available at 1st Choice Health & Wellness.
Those who wish to take part in the testing simply schedule a blood draw appointment at the clinic. During that time, there are a series of questions including medical history, family health, lifestyle factors, and other pertinent information that will help determine their overall risk for heart disease.
From there, the blood work is sent off to Boston Heart Diagnostics’ lab for an in-depth analysis of the patient’s current and future risk for heart disease. These tests can determine a patient’s risk of developing diabetes, measures their HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, and measures fatty acid levels. Once the results are returned, a follow-up appointment is scheduled where the next steps are decided on.
“We didn’t want to just leave the patient wondering what to do next after receiving the results of their test,” explains Dr. Christopher Nunier of 1st Choice Health & Wellness. “That’s why once we have a clear picture of what is going on with their heart, we assist them in creating a plan for making those lifestyle changes.”
These changes often include setting realistic diet and fitness goals, reducing stress, and utilizing chiropractic care to adjust spinal imbalances so that the heart and blood vessels can efficiently communicate with the central nervous system.
“This test is important because it essentially gives us a roadmap to follow when working with a patient,” continues Dr. Nunier. “Without understanding the total picture of a person’s health, we can’t help them reduce their risk for cardiovascular problems and disease in the future.”
