Russia can be easily considered as one of the countries that is not bitcoin friendly, particularly after recent reports regarding Russian lawmakers submitting a new draft bill to the country’s legislative assembly Duma last month that seeks to ban digital currencies such as bitcoin.

However, in rather surprising news, a Bitcoin Conference is going to be held in the country on April 8th 2016 at Digital October, Moscow, Bersenevskaya naberezhnaya, 6, str. 3, NewsBTC reported. Smile-Expo, a Moscow-based exhibition company, will be hosting the conference that hopes to attract participation from government representatives, financial experts, banking representatives, entrepreneurs, developers, investors, lawyers and others. It aims to discuss the future of Bitcoin and blockchain technology in Russia through constructive dialogues and debates.

Smile-Expo’s press document noted that several Russian companies, with banking partners located abroad, have always expressed their interests in the blockchain technology. They believe that the technology has the potential to simplify remittance and record-keeping methods.

“The financial industry experts were able to see the potential of blockchain technology as a decentralized platform for various social projects. It is worth noting that the authorities are not so categorical in their statements with respect to the crypto-systems”, an excerpt of the document reads.

According to Smile-Expo, the conference will provide a positive environment for discussing the bitcoin and blockchain technology. The key topics to be discussed at the event include exploring how blockchain technology could disrupt banking system, what to expect from the authorities regarding Bitcoin, alternative application of blockchain technology (payment systems, retail chains, supply chains etc.), understanding cyber crime and how to avoid fraud and real cases about how Russian companies are working with Bitcoin and block chain technologies.

“Neither actions in Paris nor a range of cyber attacks could cool down the interest of governments and financial giants to such technologies. In order not to get behind and be prepared for tomorrow when block chain will be applied by the Europeans and Americans, Russia needs an informational floor. Bitcoin Conference Russia 2016 will become the perfect possibility”, the website reads.
