uberPOOL Likely To Expand To More Cities Worldwide

Uber announced uberPOOL in August last year and the service seems to be expanding to different cities around the world.

The company last week introduced its innovative carpool option to Miami that will connect riders travelling in the same direction so that they can share the ride and split the cost, thereby making the fare 35% cheaper than uberX.

South Florida Caribbean News reported that Ryan Graves, Uber’s Senior Vice President and Head of Global Operations, hosted a special presentation to unveil uberPOOL.

“uberPOOL will become an important supplement to Miami’s transportation system. Launching uberPOOL in Miami is a step in the right direction toward fulfilling our vision for the future that looks a whole lot greener, cleaner, and more efficient thanks to fewer cars and more shared rides,” said Graves.

Uber blog says that uberPOOL “adds only a few minutes, and you both save big”. The service has a maximum of 2 passengers per request.

The Telegraph reported that that the company is planning to launch the ride sharing system in London in the coming months despite “threatened limits on ridesharing.” Andrew Byrne, Uber's Head of Public Policy in the UK and Ireland, said that they are hoping to launch "a major new product called uberPOOL" in London within the next few months.

"We want to end car ownership in London," he told the Parliamentary committee at the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee inquiry into the digital economy, as quoted by the Telegraph.

Simon Rossi, Uber’s Australian general manager, also revealed that the car pooling service could be released in Perth in as little as 6 months, The West Australian reported.
