The Xiaomi 12 series has been finally revealed, confirming previous reports that it will be one of the first premium phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to be released in the wild. The company has also announced that the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s battery is designed to support one of the fastest charging rates available in the market.
The flagship Xiaomi 12 series is a two-device lineup with the standard model and the Xiaomi 12 Pro. But the series was also launched with the Xiaomi 12X that uses the Snapdragon 870 SoC.
Both devices share similar premium features, including LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, DisplayMate A+ OLED panels, NFC connectivity, and IR blaster. The Xiaomi 12 models are also media powerhouse devices as they both feature dual speakers developed with SOUND by Harman Kardon and support Dolby Atmos.
The camera is where the distinction between the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro becomes clearer. The base model’s primary sensor is Sony IMX766, along with a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP “telemacro” camera.
As mentioned in earlier leaks, the high-end phone features a triple 50MP shutter, including a Sony IMX707 main camera that is promised to improve the device’s light capturing capacity by 49 percent compared to its predecessor. The Xiaomi 12 Pro also features a 50MP JN1 ultra-wide sensor with a 115° field of view and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom.
The standard Xiaomi 12, as expected, has a smaller display measured at 6.28 inches with a flexible OLED panel, 1100 nit peak brightness, and 2400 x 1080 resolution. The Xiaomi 12 Pro, on the other hand, sports a 6.73-inch 2K (3200 x 1440) display with a Samsung E5 component. Both phones have a 120Hz refresh rate and support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. A 4500mAh battery powers the Xiaomi 12, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro uses a single cell 4600mAh component that can support up to 120W fast charging with help from the company’s Surge P1 charging technology.
Xiaomi 12 will be available in 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB configurations, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro will have 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB options with prices starting at RMB 3,699 and RMB4,699, respectively. Both models, including the Xiaomi 12X, will be available in China starting Friday, Dec. 31. But customers in other regions may have to wait until 2022 to purchase the new phones.
