The “Withings” thermometer is now available for purchase. Dubbed the “Thermo,” it’s considered one of the most sophisticated in the world, particularly for one that’s sold in the commercial market. It’s available in Apple’s Stores and via online purchase from Apple’s and ‘Withings” websites.
The “Thermo” is a smart thermometer that measures the body’s temperature via the temporal artery, Tech Crunch reports. All the user has to do is hold the thermometer against their temple for 2 seconds and they’re done.
The device sports 16 infra-red sensors, all of which equate to about 4,000 measurements in the 2 seconds it becomes active. This makes it by far more accurate than most conventional thermometers, and it’s also why it’s a lot faster. The temperature will then be displayed on the small screen on the thermometer, but that’s not the only place where the results are shown.
Since the “Thermo” is a smart thermometer, it also connects to smart devices, thus allowing users to keep track of their temperature using their preferred format. When tracking multiple temperatures from multiple patients, users can also create specific profiles to match those patients in order to avoid confusion. The thermometer is suitable for both adults and babies, so customers will only need to get the “Thermo” for everyone’s use.
On the matter of the power source, the device uses 2 AAA batteries, which is a little unconventional given the rechargeable units that are more common these days. Then again, the batteries are supposed to last for 2 years, so there wouldn’t be much of a point to recharge them anyway.
For those wondering, The Verge reports that the FDA already approved the “Thermo” for mass production and sale, so there’s no need to worry about safety issues related to the device. The device costs a retail price of $99.95 and with that amount, customers get one of the best thermometers in the market right now.
