USD review: Western Union

  • Softer U.S. data and a cautious message from the Fed have put the dollar in a bit of a hole that it will look for a helping hand out of in U.S. data this week on housing, inflation and durable goods. 

  • Any evidence of a further loss in U.S. economic momentum would risk digging a deeper hole for the dollar. However, any constructive outcomes that play up the economy's underlying solid fundamentals would stir anew the U.S. interest rate debate and stand to buoy the greenback. 

  • Existing home sales are due Monday, followed by consumer prices Tuesday, durable goods Wednesday and revised fourth quarter growth and consumer sentiment on Friday.
