UK public finances continue to improve

Coming only two days after the Budget, this release will attract much less interest than usual.

The OBR's updated forecasts for the 2014-15 fiscal year will include implied figures for February and March combined so the February data released here will not alter the market's view of the full-year out-turn. 

Societe Generale says....

  • Writing this before the OBR's new forecasts are known, we expect that the boost in self-assessment income tax revenues seen in January will have spilled over into the February numbers as well because a significant number of people appeared likely to have missed the 31 January deadline for filing their tax forms. 

  • We predict that the PSNBex will swing from £-8.8bn to £+8.9bn.
