It is not new for Canadian pop star Justin Bieber to be involved in a feud with other well-known personalities. But his absurd tweet from June is now making fans — and even Dana White — look forward to a possible celebrity Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match.
Dana White sees opportunity in possible Bieber vs. Cruise fight
The UFC president said that the Bieber vs. Cruise fight might sound “crazy” but confirmed during his appearance at the 2019 Hashtag Sports event last week that someone has officially approached him to make it come true. White also admitted that the business and profitability of such match makes him interested in making it happen for real.
“Listen, if I can make that fight, I'd be all over that fight. It'd be the biggest pay-per-view in the history of pay-per-view,” White told USA Today. The UFC boss did not drop any name or whose party it was that reached out to him. But he confirmed that he was at home on a Sunday when he received a call “with two big guys” on the other end of the line. “They were telling me this could possibly happen and this could be real. I'm like, there's no way that this is really going to happen. But if it does, call me back. I'm in,” White added.
It is also easy to understand why a supposed UFC match between Cruise and Bieber would be such a hit. The veteran actor remains one of the most sought-after Hollywood stars. Bieber, on the other hand, is still one of the biggest names in the pop music industry all over the world.
Where did this all start?
I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon. Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite ?
— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) June 10, 2019
All these talks about a UFC match started when Bieber posted on Twitter an absurd challenge issued to Cruise. The singer posted on June 10 that he wants to fight Cruise in the octagon. Bieber further taunted the actor of being “scared” if he will not accept the challenge. However, Bieber backpedaled a couple of days earlier telling TMZ that his tweet was not serious.
Undefeated UFC pro fighter Ben Askren is betting on Cruise to win telling TMZ Sports that Bieber “seems like a wimp” before adding Cruise’s ability to do his own stunts for his action films. Stunt performer Steve-O, on the other hand, issued a challenge to the pop singer saying he is the one Bieber should fight him instead of Cruise.
