“Toy Story 4” has been in the news since 2015, and despite several announcements of its release, it did not happen for a while. Now, after three years, Pixar/Disney finally confirmed when it will bring the movie to the theaters.
Release Date
“Toy Story 4” was originally announced to arrive on June 16, 2017, but it was delayed and Disney did not issue any more updates about the film. There was no sign of the film for a couple of years, and fans even wondered if the company still had plans of releasing it at all.
Just as the interest in the “Toy Story 4” dwindled a bit, the producers finally revealed that they have secured a new schedule for its premiere. In April, the official “Toy Story” Facebook page was updated with a notice that the fourth installment of the Woody film is set to hit cinemas on June 21, 2019. The showing date is said to be applicable to both the U.S. and the U.K.
Plot
Pixar Animation shared that “Toy Story 4” will be about the search for Bo Peep. This was because in the third installation, it was suggested that she would be sold at a yard sale, hence the plot of the upcoming movie.
Furthermore, it appears that Woody and Bo Peep are going to be affectionate with each other and may become a couple. With that, it can be said that “Toy Story 4” is a love story. Although Bo Peep did not appear in the third movie, Pixar’s chief creative officer and director, John Lasseter, suggested that they will feature her backstory.
“I love Bo Peep. And we never got to know her backstory,” Lasseter told MTV News. “She wasn’t in Toy Story 3 at all, so it really set us up nicely for her to come back. It’s a very special story.”
He also shared that Bo Peep’s story is actually based on his own wife Nancy’s life story. “My wife Nancy has an incredible emotional story, before I met her, so it's a very personal story -- as is every film at Pixar. It's a very touching story that's inspired by my love for my wife," the Pixar executive narrated.
Cast
The cast for “Toy Story 4” is likely to be the same lineup that includes Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz) and Annie Potts (Bo Peep). It was reported that Pixar may sign up Patricia Arquette too, but her role is still not confirmed.
