‘The Winds of Winter’: George RR Martin reasserted he will finish ‘TWOW’ while fans already gave up waiting due to his age

“The Winds of Winter” is still in the works as its author George RR Martin is still working on some chapters. This is the second to the last in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series, and the collection will conclude in the seventh book titled “A Day of Spring.”

The novel series spawned the creation of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” but sadly when the TV series ended, the book from which the story was based on has been stuck in the fifth title. Although Martin initially regretted the fact that the TV adaptation ended while the book is still being written, he later said that it was “freeing” because there is no pressure to work faster to complete the book ahead of “GoT” finale, as per The Guardian.

Martin reiterated his promise to finish “TWOW”

He added that he is now at his own pace, but then again, he said that he will not procrastinate anymore and will finish the book. He reaffirmed this promise of completing “The Winds of Winter” at the recent Irish Book Awards in Dublin that took place on Aug. 20.

George RR Martin received the International Recognition Award, and in his acceptance speech, he said that he would finish his much-awaited novels. "My latest book ‘Fire and Blood’ is a work of imaginary history and ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ is a work of fiction, fantasy novels, which I will finish," RTE quoted Martin as saying. "I know I should be at home writing right now, I’m sorry! It is based on history, the 100 Years War, the Crusades, a whole lot of things from medieval history which I’ve read over the years."

Fans don’t believe the book will be released

Then again, since this is Martin’s nth time to make a promise for the release of “The Winds of Winter,” it was reported that many fans have given up already. Erik Kain of Forbes wrote that it is time for fans to accept that the book will never be finished and besides age has caught up with the author too.

With George RR Martin, turning 71 this year, he said that there are fans who are not convinced that “The Winds of Winter” will make it to the bookstores. One frustrated fan shared that she thinks it is reasonable to start burying the expectations for “The Winds of Winter” since Martin is old already.
