“The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 9 will pick-up directly where it left off as confirmed by showrunner Angela Kang. This comes to no surprise given how the mid-season finale ended.
Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and several members of Alexandria are currently surrounded by Walkers. Jesus (Tom Payne) has already been killed off and the group doesn’t have room to grieve given the situation they’re in. “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 9 is excepted to not have a lot of action sequences as the protagonist will need to analyze this new threat that is plaguing their sanctuary.
In the comics, The Whisperers is a brutal bunch of efficient killers who follow a chilling perspective of survival of the fittest. The Whisperer War saw this faction getting annihilated by none other than Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) himself. Of course, the people of Alexandria also helped in bringing down these antagonists but it was Negan who was at the center of their collapse. As such, “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 9 will likely set-up Negan’s story and his role for the upcoming battle.
It’s for this reason that some fans are speculating that Negan will be killed off somewhere during the second half of this installment. While some audiences have been screaming for the death of this troubled character, others are curious why the writers are keeping him around. Given the atrocities that he has committed, there’s no way Negan can redeem himself. Even if he offers his life for the sake of others, it’s still wouldn’t be enough payment for what he did to Glenn (Steven Yeun) and for the other crimes he committed. “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 9 will probably start rolling the story of how Negan will have a redemption story with him ultimately dying in the end.
After all, the character has already expressed he wanted to die – more so in the comics than in the show. But he also wants forgiveness for the things he’s done; redemption for the horrible acts he committed for the sake of survival. Thus, Kang might be killing Negan this installment but not before having him carry out one final act of bravery and kindness. Negan is one of the most layered characters in the series and having him say goodbye would really hammer home that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is gone. As for when “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 9 will air, AMC has scheduled it to drop on February 2019.
