“The OA” season 2 has been confirmed to return after Netflix announced its renewal in February 2017. It has been almost two years since the announcement was released so some fans were disappointed for the slow development of the sci-fi drama. But there is good news, as filming is already done and finishing works are almost complete as well.
In any case, when “The OA” season 2 was renewed, Netflix’s VP for original series, Cindy Holland, said that they are happy that the show is returning to their streaming site.
“‘The OA’ is fantastic," she relayed. "I think from the very beginning when Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij pitched us a five-season arc, we were really excited and sat at the edge of our seats when they started talking about Season 2.”
The Netflix VP went on to say that she had already seen some cuts and assured fans that they will be very happy with it. Perhaps, the outcome would be enough to erase the fans’ annoyance over the delay?
In any case, “The OA” season 2 star and creator Brit Marling said filming will begin in January and in May, they announced that filming wrapped up already. This means that they are now in the post-production stage and release day is very soon.
Brit Marling herself confirmed that “The OA” season 2 is finally coming after the long wait through her social media. In November, she uploaded a photo showing herself holding a banner with a “Where is part 2 of OA?” message. In the caption, she simply answered the question with, “I just finished sound mixing chapter 2 so it is coming!”
Further, in her post, she also explained why “The OA” season 2 was delayed. She listed many factors and highlighted the fact that the creators and writers had to start from scratch in order to create a good story and this takes time. Plus, there are still a lot of work involved even after actual filming is done.
For those who are not familiar with “The OA,” it tells the story of a blind woman named Prairie who went back to her hometown and instantly got her eyesight back. After the unusual occurrence, she made it her goal to find other missing people who had the same experience as hers.
“The OA” season 2 will star Brit Marling, Emory Cohen, Jason Isaac, Riz Ahmed, and Sharon Van Etten. Deadline reported that Bria Vinaite has been added to the cast lineup for this season but her role is still a mystery.
“The OA” season 2 has no definite air date yet but early 2019 is highly likely.
