Ubisoft let fans in on some details about the promised “The Division 2” update that could be released this year. While details remain scarce, the developers teased that fans can expect an “entirely new” game mode.
‘The Division 2’ updates: What to expect
It has been a while since “The Division 2” received a news-breaking update with new content and game modes to play. That could be changing in the coming months as the developers revealed a few details about the upcoming “major update” for the online action RPG.
Developers from Ubisoft Massive are not calling the next “The Division 2” update an expansion, but it appears to be big enough to warrant fans’ excitement. In a recent blog post, developers confirmed that the update will include a game mode that is not only new to the game but is going to be “entirely new to the franchise.”
There were not many clues to go on that could help fans guess what the mystery game mode is going to be. While some might speculate that the “The Division 2” developers are referring to a battle royale mode, other players are not convinced. The latter argues that “The Division: Survival” released in 2016 was practically a battle royale mode, so the developers could be creating different gameplay for the next update.
There was also no mention of a new character or weapons, but the next update is also promised to include gameplay tweaks. “Along with the game mode, we are investigating new ways to progress your agent with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability,” the “The Division 2” developers said.
‘The Division 2’ next update could launch in late 2021
It appears that the development of the next “The Division 2” update has not been going on for a long time at the time of announcement. Ubisoft has placed what seems like a disclaimer saying the project is still in the early stages and would still need several months to complete.
The “The Division 2” development team, however, said that the new content could be released in late 2021 “at the earliest.” The quoted phrase also appears to be an early warning that the timeline could slip later into 2022, which is not impossible considering the effects of the pandemic in video game projects.
