Many automobile enthusiasts have been admiring Tesla’s innovations for proving that vehicles not reliant on gasoline and are powered with electricity can be a sustainable option. But it is also hard to miss the technological improvements that the brand has introduced, including the ability to deploy enhancements that affect both the vehicle’s software and on-the-road performance through over-the-air updates.
Owners of Tesla Model 3, S, and X should expect a power improvement in the coming weeks. Without having to visit any Tesla center, an update will be released and can be installed remotely.
Tesla vehicles updates: Model 3, S, and X are getting power improvements
The news was confirmed by Tesla executives in the company’s Q3 2019 earnings call on Wednesday. While discussing the Tesla Model S’s range, CEO Elon Musk announced that software improvements are slated to be released “in a few weeks.” It will improve Model 3’s power by 5 percent and by 3 percent for Model S and X.
Tesla owners should receive a notification once the improvement is ready. As mentioned, it can be accessed and applied to the electric vehicles through over-the-air updates, which simply means downloading and installing the updates through an online connection. Musk added that the update would also add a single-pedal driving feature, improved range, and faster supercharging on the electric vehicles.
“I don't think there's ever been a situation in history where you buy a car, and it gets way better over time just through the software,” Musk said (via Seeking Alpha). He added that the update could also bring up Tesla Model S’s range by up to 380. Tesla has yet to announce a specific release date for this update.
Tesla update on Smart Summon feature is arriving soon
Tesla’s software features were huge topics discussed in the earnings call. Musk also recalled the successful release of the latest Software Version 10 across Tesla vehicles in September. It added some highly anticipated features such as Spotify streaming.
However, the biggest hit from the Software Version 10 launch was the Smart Summon feature that Musk revealed has since been used for over 1 million times since it went live. It lets Tesla users “summon” their self-driving vehicles from the parking lot and onto where the owner is standing.
Instead of waking back to where the car is parked, the driver can simply wait for the car to come to them while standing outside establishments like supermarkets or restaurants. Musk promised that an improvement on the Smart Summon would also be released, also in the coming weeks, through over-the-air updates.
