Tesla’s Cybertruck program head, Siddhant Awasthi, announced his departure from the U.S. electric vehicle giant after more than eight years of service. Awasthi, who began his career at Tesla as an intern, played a pivotal role in transforming the futuristic Cybertruck from its engineering concept into large-scale production. His leadership spanned key areas including product strategy, quality improvements, and supply chain optimization, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In addition to leading the Cybertruck initiative, Awasthi also took charge of Tesla’s Model 3 program in July 2024, further expanding his influence within the company’s electric vehicle lineup. Reflecting on his journey, he shared on LinkedIn, “Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day have the opportunity to lead the Cybertruck program and bring it to reality.”
Tesla, led by CEO Elon Musk, has been navigating a mixed year. The company recorded record-breaking deliveries in the third quarter, largely fueled by a surge of U.S. buyers eager to secure the $7,500 EV tax credit before its expiration on September 30. However, industry analysts predict a slowdown in fourth-quarter sales as the tax incentive phases out.
Despite the Cybertruck’s bold design and hype, Tesla has faced sales challenges. The company has reportedly offered significant discounts on Cybertruck inventory to attract buyers. A recall filing from March 2025 revealed that 46,096 Cybertrucks were produced between its official launch in November 2023 and early this year.
Awasthi’s exit marks a significant leadership shift for Tesla, especially as the company seeks to sustain momentum in an increasingly competitive electric vehicle market dominated by innovation and shifting incentives.
