"Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" was announced as part of the franchise's 35th anniversary, and it immediately became a best-selling title days after it was released on Nintendo Switch. While several "Mario" games are in the market already, a report finds that the re-released title may have helped the others sell better.

'Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury' breaks records days after launch

At this point, it is no longer surprising news that a new Nintendo Switch game is breaking sales records shortly after its launch. And this is exactly the case for "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" that came out last Friday. GamesIndustry.biz reported on Sunday that it already skyrocketed to the first place of the UK boxed chart, making it the "fastest selling of the year."

While the report does not provide exact numbers, it says "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" has become the third best-selling "Mario" game on the Switch console. It follows other 3D titles, "Super Mario Odyssey" and "Super Mario 3D All-Stars."

These milestones are far better than what the title achieved when "Super Mario 3D World" was originally released on Wii U in 2013. Of course, fans will also have to consider that the Switch has a much larger base with 79.87 million hardware units than Wii U 13.56 million hardware units sold as of last December.

Nintendo does not have to fear multiple "Mario" games adversely affecting each other's sales. The same report noted that a couple of titles saw an increase in sales after Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" was launched. "Super Mario Odyssey" sales shot up by 28% and the "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" by 11%.

'Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury': What's new from the Wii U version?

"Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" is more than just a re-release of the original Wii U version as it comes with new gameplay features for Switch players. The base game and main plot are retained, along with a new campaign focused on Mario's adventure in Lake Lapcat, where he teams up with Bowser Jr. to defeat Fury Bowser.

The new version of the game also introduces an online multiplayer gameplay and four-player co-op mode in Captain Toad games. "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" also comes with Amiibo features and maximizes the Nintendo Switch Snapshot Mode to capture in-game screenshots easily.
