Sonos is already a big sound component company in its own right, but it knows that if it wants to survive, it has to keep up with the technological changes that are currently occurring in the market. Enter Amazon, with its “Alexa” AI, which will allow Sonos speakers to become voice-activated. In addition, the company has also struck a deal with Spotify to allow the two services to be compatible.
The audio equipment giant has been mulling the idea of voice-activated components for some time now, as Tech Times reports; quite vocally, in fact. Since it seems that it didn’t have the technical expertise to pull this off on its own, Sonos partnered with Amazon in order to take advantage of their existing AI.
The news is already drawing positive attention, with many saying that the combination is going to be a good one for customers. Sonos sound systems are considered some of the best around, and by making them easy to command via voice-activation, the components become even more appealing to the current generation.
In a press release, Amazon vice-president of Echo and Alexa, Mike George expressed equal enthusiasm about the new arrangement.
"Our Amazon customers love listening to music,” George states. “With Echo and Alexa, we combined that love of music with the ease of hands-free voice control, and today, music is one of the most-used features on Alexa-enabled devices. We're thrilled to collaborate with Sonos to combine the magic of Alexa with an incredible way to listen to music in every room in the home."
Sonos will also allow its users to stream music via Spotify directly to their components, which will be available in a few months, Digital Trends reports. This will help the company overcome a huge weakness in its own app for its components, which has long frustrated some of its customers.
