Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, popularly known as the Song-Song couple, is one of the favorite real-life partners among K-Pop fans. However, they are not spared from the relentless rumors that they might have been divorced already.
Hye Kyo was recently spotted at the Incheon Airport while on her way to Singapore. Eagle-eyed reporters took note that the actress was not wearing her wedding ring at the time. Just like in Hollywood, this very small detail is enough for divorce rumors to spread, and it actually did. Speculations that Hye Kyo and Joong Ki are no longer together immediately spread.
The divorce rumors also caught the attention of some China-based celebrity news outlets claiming that Joong Ki and Hye Kyo’s marriage is on the rocks as the latter no longer wears her wedding ring. Allkpop, on the other hand, argued that the Song-Song couple was already subjected to inaccurate reporting before when Chinese media outlets ran stories of Hye Kyo’s supposed pregnancy that turned out to be false as well.
Some fans also defended the Song-Song couple insisting that not wearing their wedding ring is not enough basis to spread divorce rumors. One fan argued that it is common for married K-Pop stars to ditch their rings while working and that Joong Ki and Hye Kyo are not the only ones doing it.
Hye Kyo and Joong Ki are popularly known for their roles in “Descendants of the Sun” where the actress played Dr. Kang Mo Yeon and the actor portrayed the South Korean Special Forces unit captain Yoo Si Jin. Their obvious onscreen chemistry obviously led to a real-life romance making fans look forward to a series sequel.
KBS, the network that aired the series, confirmed that a “Descendants of the Sun” sequel is in the making. The news came out in 2016 and KBS drama department head Jung Sung Hyo said at the time they were hoping to release it in 2017. However, there were also rumors that the series will not have Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki in the cast because of a major plot overhaul.
