Song Joong Ki is making a comeback after three years of hiatus in the drama scene. His last project for the small screen, the “Descendants of the Sun,” propelled him to international stardom and with its massive success, he further sealed his position as one of Korea’s A-list actors.
As a follow-up to a very successful drama that he starred along with Song Hye Kyo, Joong Ki made sure that his comeback drama will be spectacular as well. He chose to star in a unique project that is a first in Korea. He picked tvN’s “Arthdal Chronicles” among the offers he got and the actor revealed why.
According to Xportsnews, Song Joong Ki shared that when the writer and director presented the story of “Arthdal Chronicles” to him, he thinks that it will be fun to do a historical drama that is like a narrative that came out from Greek and Roman mythology that he came to know in his elementary school days.
The “DOTS” actor also said that he accepted the role because he finds the story of each character very interesting. Moreover, this is the first time that such type of drama is being made in Korea. It will depict prehistoric Korea, during the ancient civilization.
"I remember when the director and writer explained the overall feel of this drama to me before I received the script. I felt that it is a fun historical story,” KStar Live quoted Joong Ki as saying. "I found the general narrative of the story to be very interesting and was surprised that each character has their own storyline and color. As the character with the most growth and maturation, I related a lot to how Eun Seom thought a lot about his identity.”
Song Hye Kyo’s husband added that he was drawn to his Eun Seom’s character because he is somehow similar to him. He said that Eun Seom gets hurt often, but he never gives up. Rather, he works harder to be accepted and carve his own path.
“I became greedy in wanting to deliver his character in the drama," he said.
Finally, Song Joong Ki said that he knows that a lot of people will be able to relate to his character in “Arthdal Chronicles” just like he did. This is because most people would do their best to achieve something and to protect himself and his loved ones. His drama will be released on June 1 at 9 p.m. KST on tvN.
