Many fans around the world are surely hoping for “Sherlock” season 5 to happen. For now, there is no official announcement about the series continuation yet, but there is also no official word on the show getting canceled. The latter point is enough for many fans to continue looking forward to the adventures of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman).
Once “Sherlock” season 5 hits the screen, fans must expect to see the duo dealing with many changes in their lives that were established in the season 4 finale. Fans can expect Watson and Sherlock to continuously solve puzzles and go after the bad guys, but they have other important things to consider now.
If “Sherlock” season 5 happens, Watson will be seen in a completely different set up as a single father to his and Mary’s (Amanda Abbington) child. On the other hand, it was clearly established that Sherlock has become more mature in dealing with people and the conflict he and Watson face. All these mean that if the worldwide hit series would ever be produced, fans must expect major changes and development of the characters that would most likely affect how they solve new cases and adventures.
Fans usually get a new season or special episode after two years that could have meant a “Sherlock” season 5 premiere earlier this year. However, the schedules of movie stars Cumberbatch and Freeman can complicate production scheduling. It is also important to note that series creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are still preoccupied with creating the “Dracula” TV adaptation.
Unfortunately, the release of “Sherlock” season 5 is still vague at this point. However, there is still a chance for the series to open a new chapter once the scheduling conflicts are resolved. Most of the cast members and the showrunners have all shown interest in working on the series again. Moffat said it well, “Nobody has ever closed the door on ‘Sherlock.’ … We haven’t got an immediate plan, but I would remain surprised, given the collective enthusiasm we have for it, if we didn’t do it again. … It’s not the kind of show that has to come back all the time. It can revisit.”
