“Shameless” season 10 is confirmed, though, the show will return with one less member of the Gallagher family. Fiona (Emmy Rossum) officially left by the end of season 9, but it might take until the next installment, expected to arrive in fall, to learn where she is headed next.
Before season 9 concluded in March, it had been confirmed for a while that Rossum has decided to leave the show for good. “Shameless” season 10 will pick up from Fiona moving on to a new chapter in her life that also meant leaving her siblings and Frank (William H. Macy) behind. However, the latest season left out one vital information — just where exactly Fiona is going?
Showrunner John Wells previously told Entertainment Weekly that the original plan was to reveal Fiona’s destination. But some technicalities prevented that, and they intend to correct it when “Shameless” season 10 begins.
“The episode ended up being about eight minutes long when I first got into the editing room. So there was a conversation between Fiona and the little girl sitting next to her on the airplane about where she was going,” Wells explained. “It ended up being a mystery because we had to cut the time down, not because we planned to make it be a mystery.” On a good note, Wells promised it would be revealed at the beginning of “Shameless” season 10.
Wells also said he is hoping that Rossum would agree to guest star in some capacity for “Shameless” season 10. However, the actress does not seem certain whether she wants to be back soon on the show.
Rossum’s character is one of the foundations of the show, so when it was revealed she is leaving, speculations that the show would be canceled followed. Luckily, Showtime announced in March that they are renewing the show making “Shameless” season 10 happen.
The release date window for “Shameless” season 10 has not been announced yet. But considering that the show has had a fall premiere since 2016, there is a chance it will return later this year.
