Samsung just released its newest smartwatch, the “Gear S3” and it is huge. This is necessary, however, as the gadget now allows users to stream Spotify directly into the watch and to use GPS without always having to stay near phones.
One of the biggest differences the “S3” has compared to the “S2” is the size of the watch face, at 46mm. In comparison, the previous version was only 42mm. This also makes the “S3” larger than the bigger version of the “Apple Watch,” which also stands at 42mm, CNET reports.
The Samsung smartwatch sports a beautiful design as well, courtesy of Swedish watch designer, Yvan Arpa. The “S3” still has the rotating bezel that the previous model had, building on its handy feature of switching apps and choosing the face of the watch that the always-on aspect will constantly display. The watch strap is 22mm leather offering, which completes the elegant design of the unit.
In terms of internal features, the Tizen OS is still being used for the smartwatch and it is compatible with most Android-based smartphones. Its battery life has also been extended by a full 30%, which now allows it to last for 4 days between charges.
By making the smartwatch GPS-capable without relying on smartphones, Samsung is allowing users to perform certain activities without having to bring their phone with them all the time. Speaking of which, customers can choose from two distinct styles in order to fit their needs. There is the Classic style, which speaks more for formal affairs. Then there’s the Frontier style, which would likely suit users who have more active lifestyles.
As PC World notes, both watches are perfectly capable of withstanding quick changes in air or water pressure, and they are also completely waterproof. By all accounts, the “Samsung Gear S3” is a smart, strong, and stylish smartwatch.
