Fans of “Rick and Morty” have been receiving a lot of good news recently. However, Christopher Lloyd’s guesting in “Rick and Morty” season 4 — a highly requested cameo — is still not set in stone. But is it possible?

Some might have thought that “Rick and Morty” is a crazier, trippy version of “Back to the Future.” Well, it is simply because the series actually came out after co-creator Justin Roiland (also the voice actor for Rick and Morty) made the short “The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti” — a parody of Doc (Lloyd) and Marty (Michael J. Fox) from “Back to the Future.”

Though the short is technically not a “Rick and Morty” pilot, the characters inspired by Doc and Marty were later developed to become the titular protagonists in the now popular Adult Swim franchise. Fast forward to last month, Christopher Lloyd was asked about “Rick and Morty” in an interview with the Phoenix New Times and he might have made an exciting plot possible for “Rick and Morty” season 4.

Lloyd admitted that he has not caught up with the latest “Rick and Morty” releases but revealed that he has some episodes. “I don't follow it closely, but I've seen a few episodes and I gotta tell you, I think it's a lot of fun. I know it's some kind of parody of Doc and Marty,” Lloyd said.

When asked about joining as a guest voice actor in “Rick and Morty,” he said, “I'd like to, of course. I think it's really fun.” Before fans get too excited about it, it is important to note that this is not official yet. And if Christopher Lloyd ever does a cameo for the series, there is no assurance that it is happening in “Rick and Morty” season 4.

Meanwhile, there used to be a long pause in between seasons of “Rick and Morty.” For example, there was an almost two-year gap between seasons 2 and 3.

However, fans will not have to worry for a while since “Rick and Morty” season 4 has been confirmed. Added to that, Roiland also revealed that they have at least “70 more episodes” in a Twitter post last May. Now the remaining question is when “Rick and Morty” season 4 is going to air.

Days after the season 3 finale was released, the official Adult Swim Twitter page said that “Rick and Morty” season 4 is due “in like a really long time.” But there are speculations that a “Rick and Morty” season 4 is due before 2018 ends, based on what Mr.Poopybutthole said in a season 3 finale post-credits scene.

In the said scene, Mr. Poopybutthole mentioned growing a “big, white Santa Claus beard” by the time the next season comes out. Reports have it that it could be a subtle hint that “Rick and Morty” season 4 is arriving in December 2018.
