Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Johnny Depp gets support from fellow actor to return as Jack Sparrow

Johnny Depp returns as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean 6 continues to gain support, this time from fellow Pirates actor Greg Ellis who played the role of Lieutenant Commander Theodore Groves.

Groves was Lord Cutler Beckett's second-in-command and had appeared in three of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies—Curse of the Black Pearl, At World's End, and On Stranger Tides.

Ellis said that he has nothing against the movie's spin-off, which stars Margot Robbie but that it does not seem right to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series without putting a closure to the story of Captain Jack Sparrow.

The actor added that doing so would also be acknowledging the major contribution that Johnny Depp made to the Pirates series.

According to Ellis, it would be ideal for Disney to first wrap-up the story of Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of the characters who have become favorites of the fans before rebooting the film.

It cannot be denied that Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow has become the face of the movie franchise, and the very least that Disney could do is to bring him back to a Pirates of the Caribbean 6 movie.

Disney is currently working on two Pirates of the Caribbean movies, both reboots, so most likely, it will have new characters. There has also been no news of Johnny Depp being back as Captain Jack Sparrow.

And, this is why fans have started an online petition for Depp to reprise his role in the movie.

However, Depp is currently in the middle of a legal fight against The Sun, which he had sued for libel for calling him a wife-beater in a published article despite evidence pointing otherwise. And, this is not the kind of publicity that Disney would want surrounding its movies.

Of the two reboots that Disney is developing, the one starring Robbie is the movie that has been well-received. Fans have pointed out that Pirates of the Caribbean was originally about female power fantasy, which the fourth and fifth installments have veered away from.

Despite that, fans will still want to see Johnny Depp once again bringing to life Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
