Over the weekend, fans finally learned the “One Punch Man” season 2 details they had been wanting to hear for several years now. For one, “One Punch Man” season 2 episode 1 is confirmed to air in 2019. Meanwhile, the next anime series installment begins after Saitama’s three-year training.
First, it is important to emphasize that “One Punch Man” season 2 episode 1 is going to air in April 2019 — the official air date for the entire second season. Before the official announcements were revealed last Aug. 12, there were rumors that the first episode would be released last Sunday, during the “One Punch Man" Maji Gakuensai event in Japan while the rest of season 2 was said to be due in winter 2020.
However, producers of the anime series only revealed the official trailer for “One Punch Man” season 2, not an entire episode 1. Obviously, “One Punch Man” season 2 episode 1 will also be released sometime in April 2019 along with other episodes.
Meanwhile, the release of the official trailer also came with the “One Punch Man” season 2 synopsis. And it now appears that the anime’s second installment is founded on Shibabawa’s prediction that is known in the franchise as the forthcoming “great disaster.”
Shibabawa is an old woman and a popular seer/fortune teller in G-City. She has always warned other characters about a certain great disaster that will put the whole Earth in danger. In the “One Punch Man” season 2 synopsis, it is hinted that the great catastrophe that Shibabawa has foretold refers to the arrival of more monsters on Earth.
The appearance of many monsters on Earth then gives fans an inkling on what the focus of “One Punch Man” season 2 will be. First, Saitama’s powers and abilities as a legitimate hero will be put to test. Second, the appearance of more monsters confirms that Garou is going to be a key character in this installment.

It has been previously speculated that Garou is returning and likely to become the main villain in “One Punch Man” season 2. That has now been confirmed as the trailer and other official promotional materials for the anime series feature Garou alongside Saitama, like the key visual shown above.
