After several episodes of getting pummeled by Katakuri, Luffy finally gets the upper hand in “One Piece” episode 857 with his Gear Fourth attacks. But here is why their battle is unlikely ending in this episode.
The title for “One Piece” episode 857, “Luffy Fights Back! The Invincible Katakuri’s Weak Point,” is clearly hinting that the main protagonist is getting a break from being the loser. And the events in the previous episode made this possible.
According to the “One Piece” episode 857 preview, Luffy finally lands an attack on Katakuri. It can be recalled that since they started their battle, all of Luffy’s efforts have been futile because Katakuri was able to predict his moves.
However, in episode 856, Katakuri’s highly kept secret was revealed and this led to the revelation of his weakness. This invincibility will be observed by Luffy and will be tackled in “One Piece” episode 857.
Fans who have read the manga series have a clue on what this weakness is. Based on the previously told events in the manga, “One Piece” episode 857 is going to be the time when Luffy tells Katakuri his great command of his Mochi Mochi no Mi is not his fiercest power. He will later explain how he figures out that Katakuri uses the Kenbunshoku Haki. This is what heightens his senses, allowing him to predict his opponent’s movements.
“One Piece” episode 857 will also explain that the Kenbunshoku Haki is powerless if the user is rattled — exactly how Katakuri's state of mind will be after Luffy sees the way he eats. This is the best time for Luffy to use all his might and attack Katakuri with Gear Fourth.
However, the events in the manga series also indicate that this is not how their battle will end. Gear Fourth is effective for a limited time. Luffy will lose time before he completely defeats Katakuri, which means the battle continues beyond “One Piece” episode 857.
As soon as Luffy runs out of Gear Fourth attacks, Katakuri is back on top and Luffy must find another way to defeat him. “One Piece” episode 857 will officially air on Oct. 14.
