‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 6, Episode 18 Spoilers: “Where Bluebirds Fly" – Zelena Prepares for Deadly Battle with Black Fairy

‘Once Upon A Time’ season 6’s episode 18, titled “Where Bluebirds Fly," will follow Zelena as she prepares for a deadly battle with the antagonistic Black Fairy.

The synopsis for “Where Bluebirds Fly” posted on Cartermatt reads, “In flashbacks, Zelena (Rebecca Mader) befriends a young woodcutter who has been cursed and turns to her for help finding a new heart. Zelena is forced to choose between keeping her powers and her friendship with him.

Meanwhile, in Storybrooke, Zelena decides to take on the Black Fairy (Jaime Murray) and put a stop to her, once and for all, against Regina’s (Lana Parilla) wishes, and the Charmings disagree over Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook’s (Colin O’Donoghue) wedding plans.”

The upcoming episode is set to put focus on Zelena a.k.a. the Wicked Witch of the West as well as her current relationship with the core characters of the show. It will also follow Zelena as she goes through great lengths to try and defeat the Black Fairy despite her sister’s disapproval. It is unclear whether Regina will forgo any sensibilities and team up with her sister in the potentially deadly mission or if Zelena will even make it out alive in the new episode.

In the promo, Zelena is seen coming face-to-face with the evil Black Fairy. She tells her foe, “I’m not afraid of you.” Black Fairy taunts, “Oh, but you should be.”

The next scene shows Regina pleading to David (Josh Dallas), Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), and Emma that Zelena may need their help. They all look anxious as they take in the news of Zelena’s plans in defeating the enemy.

Finally, Regina is seen arguing with Zelena. Regina warns her sister, “She’s the most evil we’ve ever faced!” However, Zelena doesn’t look too intimidated as she prepares for a battle of power and magic. She angrily tells Regina, “It’s about stopping the woman who threatened my baby!”

In the final scene, Zelena finally confronts Black Fairy in a cave to which she declares, “I came down here to do one thing: Kill you!” The Black Fairy replies, “Not today.” The cave then begins to crumble as Zelena and Regina run to safety.

Flashbacks will also feature Zelena befriending a woodcutter. This encounter may be a life-altering one as she is forced to decide whether to give up her powers to help him find a new heart after he was put under a curse. The promotional photographs for episode 18 posted on TV Fanatic reveal that Zelena will befriend a character that looks like the Tin Man from the ‘Wizard of Oz’ storyline.

‘Once Upon A Time’ season 6’s episode 18, titled “Where Bluebirds Fly," is scheduled to air on ABC on April 23, 2017. It was directed by Michael Schultz and written by David H. Goodman and Brigitte Hales. It will be followed by episode 19, titled "The Black Fairy,” written by Jerome Schwartz and Dana Horgan and scheduled to be released on April 30.
