Old age population in US and China seen growing around same rate

Older Citizens. Michael Coghlan/flickr

China, amongst the emerging markets, has one of the oldest population age structures. There is only one year difference in the median age between the US and China. The 65+age cohort in China is expected to increase at around the same rate as that of the US as the 60 to 64 age cohort of China is 5.5, while the US cohort is 5.9.

The oldest age distributions amongst the developed markets are in Japan and Germany. Meanwhile, in the 0-14 cohort, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Poland, Croatia and Russia have a small percent of population that is growth negative.
