“Narcos: Mexico” also known as “Narcos” season 4 debuted on Nov. 16 via Netflix so all of its 10 episodes were already made available for streaming. This means that most of the fans were able to binge-watch and already viewed all the episodes for the entire season. With this said, the ending of the crime drama is not a secret anymore.

So, what happened in “Narcos: Mexico?” To summarize, it was not a happy ending but offered a bittersweet conclusion. The finale of this latest installment is likely very disappointing for many viewers but it probably succeeded in presenting a realistic scenario when it chose to show an ending that goes against what the audience usually wants.

Surely, everyone loves a conclusion where the good guys win but this was not the case in “Narcos: Mexico” as Kiki Camarena (Michael Pena), the DEA agent lead protagonist, has died while fighting to put an end to the drug cartel industry. He was weeks away from leaving Guadalajara after his mission but sadly, he did not make it home anymore.

Here’s what transpired that led to Kiki Camarena’s death in “Narcos: Mexico:”

The DEA agent was sent to Guadalajara to run after and bring down the drug kingpin Felix Gallardo (Diego Luna) in 1981. He successfully located the farm where the marijuana plants are being grown and the Mexican authorities were tipped and subsequently launched a raid.

Naturally, the break-in infuriated the drug lords of Guadalajara Cartel and this led to Kiki Camarena's kidnapping. It was shocking to know that although the drug cartel bosses want Kiki, it was the DFS intelligence who actually snatched him off the streets in broad daylight.

Apparently, the DFS wants him as well because they concluded that he might also know about the cartel and police's collaboration in the drug business. While the DEA and the Mexican authorities search for Kiki in “Narcos: Mexico,” the poor agent was brought face to face with Felix Gallardo who ended his life after days of torture.

The authorities came to know about Kiki’s death when they captured one of Felix’s men and confessed. Soon, Comandante Calderoni (Julio Cesar Cedillo), one of the highest-ranking commanders in the Mexican Federal Police, was able to apprehend Felix while he was trying to escape but he let him go after the drug cartel leader revealed his connection with the Mexican government. The commander set him free in exchange for government protection since he is now in danger too as a result of pursuing the Guadalajara Cartel in “Narcos: Mexico.”

Finally, the ending shows that most of the drug leaders remained alive as the DEA agents go undercover to infiltrate the flourishing drug trade. An all-out war against drugs has started and “Narcos” season 5 is expected to continue and pick up from this “Narcos: Mexico” finale.
