The agents of the Navy’s investigative branch is always fun to watch during their undercover and stakeout missions. Fans will be delighted that the show will combine those two in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9. But are the viewers also getting close to saying goodbye to their favorite medical examiner, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum)?
Gibbs (Mark Harmon), McGee (Sean Murray), Bishop (Emily Wickersham), and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) will be reopening a cold case of “high-profile robbery” in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9. The team gets their second shot at nailing the case after their lead suspect gets out of prison.
They obviously do not have enough evidence yet to make an arrest which leaves them with the only option: an undercover stakeout in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9. These moments offer some of the most fun and thrilling episodes in the show. It is interesting to see what alter egos the agents will take or what misadventures they might encounter while tailing a suspect.
It is very likely that the cold case will be resolved in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9. But however the investigation turns out, fans cannot expect to see Ducky next week.

Episode 8 made it clear that Ducky will be gone in the upcoming episodes. He abruptly returned after his book tour and told Jimmy (Brian Dietzen) about his plans of embarking on a “globetrotting adventures.” So, unfortunately, the fan-favorite doctor will not be around in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9.
Even before “NCIS” season 16 episode 9, there have already been hints that this could be Ducky’s final season. He said so himself in episode 8 that Jimmy is already a highly capable medical examiner. Ducky used to be the team’s certified psychological profiler but Sloane (Maria Bello) already had it covered as well. In episode 8, Ducky also absurdly ran out of stories to tell which has been consistently his brand for the past 15 seasons.
Though Ducky promised Jimmy that he will return, it is not likely happening in “NCIS” season 16 episode 9. Remember, he will be visiting the Mount Rushmore — for the first time — during winter. New episodes are released every Tuesday, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
