The mid-season finale of “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5 has ended and it killed off a character that’s pretty significant to Dwayne’s (Scott Bakula) life. The character in question is Dwayne’s father, Cassius Pride (Stacy Keach).
Although Cassius doesn’t have any prominent role in the overall scheme of the narrative, his loss was still painful for some fans, but even more so for Dwayne. It’s clear that the SAC (Special Agent in Charge) is still recovering from the wounds he attained from Amelia’s (Ellen Hollman) failed assassination. But now, Amelia has once again wounded Dwayne, emotionally this time. With the physical wounds he’s still struggling and the recent death of his old man, Dwayne is expected to sink deeper into darkness when “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5 returns.
This is bad news for the NCIS squad since Dwayne has always been the pillar that held everything in place, even though Hannah (Necar Zadegan) is temporarily filling his previous role. It is for this reason that the show might bring back Commander Atkins (Geoffrey Owens). In the sixth episode of “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5, Atkins provided some emotional outlet for Dwayne and his words seemed to have resonated with the accomplished agent.
It’s for this reason that showrunners might be bringing back the commander somewhere during the second half of “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5. This is especially true since executive producer Christopher Silber previously said that they’re interested in including Owens into their lineup of familiar faces.
Commander Atkins’ reappearance will prove a welcome presence in “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5 since Dwayne is at a dark place at the moment. The agent couldn’t afford to lose focus and grieve right now as the main priority of the squad is bringing down the mysterious Apollyon group.
The members of this organization proved to be quite effective and are more than capable of unleashing chaos within Dwayne’s turf. There’s also the underlying tension who is leading Apollyon, with some speculating that it could be someone who is in a powerful government position. Whatever the case, action sequences are expected to fill the hours when “NCIS: New Orleans” Season 5 return on Jan. 8, 2019.
