Mexican industrial production grows sequentially in December

Mexico’s industrial production grew on a sequential basis in the month of December. According to INEGI, the nation’s industrial output rose 0.9 percent in real terms, based on seasonally adjusted figures. This is a rise from previous month’s drop of 0.1 percent and above consensus expectations of a rise of 0.5 percent.

Components wise, construction sector recorded an output of 3.7 percent, whereas manufacturing industries saw a rise of 0.1 percent. Meanwhile, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, water and gas supply by pipelines to the final consumer dropped 4 percent, whereas mining output recorded a fall of 0.5 percent sequentially in December.

On a year-on-year basis, industrial production saw a rise of 0.1 percent in the reference month. Sector wise, construction saw a rise of 3.1 percent, while manufacturing industries saw a rise of 1.2 percent. On the other hand, mining dropped 7.6 percent and the Generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy, water and gas supply by pipelines to the final consumer dropped 1.6 percent year-on-year in December.
