Meta Platforms and Tesla are scheduled to release third-quarter results after Wednesday’s U.S. market close, giving investors new company figures after the Nasdaq Composite lagged other major indexes.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 529.85 points, or 1.02%, to 52,495.88 on Oct. 20. The S&P 500 rose 21.84 points, or 0.28%, to 7,712.57, while the Nasdaq slipped 6.07 points, or 0.02%, to 26,424.82, according to index-provider data carried by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

The Associated Press said corporate earnings helped support shares outside technology. It reported gains of 11.2% for Hasbro and 11.3% for Equifax after the companies released quarterly results.

Hasbro said its third-quarter revenue was 15% higher than a year earlier, with Magic: The Gathering generating more than $600 million in a quarter for the first time. Equifax reported $1.693 billion in revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30, a 10% increase from a year earlier. Separately, 3M raised its full-year adjusted earnings forecast to $9.10 to $9.15 a share.

Oil also eased during the session. Brent crude futures reached $111.99 a barrel before settling at $108.79, down 0.69%, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Associated Press linked lower oil prices to relief for airlines with large fuel bills and reported share gains of 3.7% for American Airlines and 2.3% for United Airlines.

Crude has been unusually volatile this year. The U.S. Energy Information Administration said disruptions to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz contributed to higher, less stable prices in the second quarter. Average daily Brent price swings reached $4 a barrel in April and May, compared with $1 in the same months of 2025, the agency said.

The Economic Times cited Anthony Saglimbene of Ameriprise on investor concerns about financing AI infrastructure and whether that spending will deliver returns. Borrowing costs were also a concern during last week’s technology-share slide.

Meta’s earnings call is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, followed by Tesla’s webcast at 5:30 p.m. ET.
