Lee Min Ho has reunited with “Heirs” and “Descendants of the Sun” screenwriter Kim Eun Sook for his comeback drama tentatively titled “The King: The Eternal Monarch.” The actor’s participation in this project was revealed less than two weeks after he was discharged from the army last month, but at that time, his leading lady is still unknown.
But on May 20, Hwa&Dam Pictures finally announced Min Ho’s co-lead star in the drama. According to Newsen, a source revealed that the production company signed up Kim Go Eun for the female lead role named Luna. This will be her comeback project in three years as well since she did not appear on TV series after the highly successful “Goblin.”
What’s more, just like Lee Min Ho, Go Eun will also be reunited with Kim Eun Sook as “Goblin” is one of her famous works. In fact, the writer won the grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2017 for the said drama that also starred Lee Dong Wook and Gong Yoo.
In any case, on choosing the actress as Min Ho’s leading lady, Hwa&Dam Pictures relayed said that they think Go Eun is perfect for the role as Luna. Besides, they already saw her acting skills and knew that she could pull off the complicated dual character that she must play in the drama.
“It’s not easy to play two completely different characters of a detective and a criminal.”Soompi quoted Hwa&Dam representative as saying. “We believe that with Kim Go Eun’s versatility as an actress, which she has shown in her various films and in her role in ‘Goblin,’ where she showed great depth as her character grew from a girl to a mature woman, she will be able to successfully take on the two different characters.”
Meanwhile, as the lead actress for Lee Min Ho’s drama is confirmed, the actor is currently enjoying some time off before going back to grind. He knows that once filming begins in the next couple of months, it will be hectic for him, so he is really taking advantage of his free time. “The King: The Eternal Monarch” is expected to be released in early 2020.
