“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” season 20 is set to air later this year, so it sounds just right that the cast and crew are now back on set to film. Meanwhile, fans will soon meet Detective Amanda Rollins’s (Kelli Giddish) new love interest in the show’s upcoming installment.

Rapper and actor Ice-T, whose real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow, recently updated his fans on Twitter about the production of “Law & Order: SVU” season 20. Along with a promotional photo shared on Monday, Ice-T confirmed that the filming of the show started this week, saying, “Back on the set...! Let’s go!” Ice-T has been part of the show since its second season.

Ice-T’s post does not reveal much about “Law & Order: SVU” season 20. But reports from last week give more details about the show’s upcoming plot. And it specifically has something to do with Detective Rollins and the arrival of a new character.

Last Friday, Deadline confirmed that former “Scandal” actor George Newbern is joining “Law & Order: SVU” season 20 for a recurring role. While Newbern is a new addition to the cast, his role is not someone new story-wise.

The report revealed that Newbern will be playing the role described as a “charming, handsome and very wealthy doctor.” It turns out that Dr. Pollack and Detective Rollins had been in a relationship before the events in “Law & Order: SVU” season 20.

However, Detective Rollins and Dr. Pollack’s relationship has been on and off. One of the reasons they did not work out is because Dr. Pollack “has a bit of a wandering eye,” Deadline added. Dr. Pollack has also been described as Detective Rollins's future love interest, which hints that the two might rekindle the old flame in “Law & Order: SVU” season 20.

But whether or not their relationship will have a better ending this time is still unknown. It is also going to be interesting if Dr. Pollack will have some positive or negative effects on Detective Rollins’s work life. To find these out, fans will have to wait for “Law & Order: SVU” season 20 to return on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
