The National Institution for Transforming India, also called NITI Aayog, is exploring the potential of blockchain application in education, health, and agricultural sectors, The Economic Times reported.
NITI Aayog is the policy think tank of the government of India, established in January 2015 in place of the erstwhile Planning Commission.
A senior government official told ET that the Aayog is currently working on a proof of concept aimed at bringing the technology to the key areas.
"It is a safe system for document verification and hence can be adopted in sectors like education, health and agriculture," the official said.
In November 2017, NITI Aayog, together with Harvard-based blockchain startup Proffer, organized an international blockchain hackathon, according to The Hindu. A team of research students from the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) won the NITI Aayog prize in the inaugural edition of the hackathon for AgroChain – a blockchain-based transparent market place for cooperative farming between farmers and consumers.
