Shiba Inu's enigmatic developer Shytoshi Kusama took to X to voice his exasperation, warning SHIB fans of new scam tactics exploiting his online presence. He emphasized the importance of verifying information through official SHIB channels.
A Rising Wave of Scammers in the SHIB Community
Under the alias Shytoshi Kusama, the shrouded primary developer of SHIB has posted a thread on his X social media account.
He detailed in that discussion how a large number of con artists have begun impersonating him on X in order to promote their own fraudulent coins. According to Kusama, he posted that thread to alert the SHIB army to keep an eye out for any suspect X accounts advertising coins that include Shytoshi Kusama as a follower.
Scammers are taking advantage of Shytoshi Kusama's good name and generosity, according to him.
Exploiting Kusama's Influence on X
His X account becomes followed by a SHIB enthusiast "as a way to keep his ear to the community," according to Kusama. As soon as con artists get aware of this, they contact the account's owner and offer to purchase it for about 1 ETH, U.Today shares. According to Kusama, this is a substantial amount of money in certain parts of the globe.
Following the takeover of an account by Kusama and the scammers, "they rebrand the account as WHATEVER," renaming it. It seems that fraudsters will be branding their accounts accordingly, as the SHIB team is now getting ready for the imminent TREAT rollout, as he indicated.
The Strategy Behind Scam Token Launches
Next, they start releasing their scam tokens and creating phony accounts with attractive avatar girls, as Kusama explains. After that, they start marketing their token by making up stories about how it is "community-driven" and other such claims.
He reminded the community that Kusama has often cautioned SHIB aficionados to always listen to official SHIB channels and check with them for any new information, and he stated that he is "completely fed up" with this misuse of his name.
Kusama's Efforts to Protect SHIB Enthusiasts
The SHIB lead is unable to prevent scammers from purchasing the X accounts he monitors, but he does his best to prevent them from directly using his identity by closely watching the SHIB-affiliated account @susbarium.
Kusama promised the community at the end of the thread that "the system designed to ensure Karma and Reputation linked to Dao governance" will soon be released by the SHIB team.
