IBM has announced its agreement with Software AG to acquire StreamSets and webMethods, Software AG's Super iPaaS technology platforms. The cash deal, worth €2.13 billion, signifies IBM's commitment to advancing AI and hybrid cloud technologies.
Strengthening AI and Data Capabilities
The acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods, as reported by Infotechlead, positions IBM as a key player in application integration, API management, and data integration. Market projections by IDC indicate that the global integration software market is expected to exceed $18.0 billion by 2027, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.1 percent.
Reuters noted that IBM's acquisition of StreamSets is set to enhance data ingestion capabilities within its AI and data platform, Watsonx. Leveraging StreamSets' renowned cloud-native DataOps and data ingestion platform, IBM aims to facilitate seamless access and delivery of data across diverse sources and data types. This move enables the creation of intelligent data pipelines, supporting real-time and batch data ingestion.
Empowering Hybrid Multi-Cloud Environments
With the acquisition of webMethods, IBM is poised to provide clients and partners with advanced integration and API management tools designed for hybrid multi-cloud environments. As an integration and API management platform available on-premises and in the cloud, webMethods offers various services, such as B2B integration, managed file transfer, and a modern API gateway. These capabilities enable effective management, monitoring, and monetization of APIs.
Software AG's Super iPaaS platform, powered by StreamSets and webMethods, demonstrates profitability and a substantial recurring revenue profile. Currently serving over 1,500 clients worldwide, this platform is vital for seamless data integration and management.
This acquisition represents a significant milestone in the IBM and Software AG partnership. It highlights IBM's dedication to enhancing its existing portfolio while leveraging its global scale and presence in over 175 countries.
With an expected finalization date in the second quarter of 2024, IBM's acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods solidifies its position as a leader in AI and hybrid cloud technologies. This strategic move not only expands IBM's capabilities but also paves the way for innovative solutions that address clients' evolving needs in an increasingly interconnected world.
